About This Site
Pick Hunting Fishing Gear publishes long-term reviews, head-to-head comparisons and practical how-to guides on the gear everyday hunters and anglers actually carry: rod and reel combos, fish finders, trail cameras, ground blinds and rangefinders. Every piece is written from real days on the water and in the woods, with the downsides left in.

Field and Water Safety
Hunting and fishing carry real risks, and no piece of gear removes them. Always follow the firearm and archery safety rules taught in your state's hunter education course: treat every firearm as loaded, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and be certain of your target and what lies beyond it. A rangefinder reading or a trail camera photo is never a substitute for positive identification of your target.
Wear blaze orange where your state requires it, including on or around a ground blind during firearm seasons, since a blind can hide you from other hunters as well as from game. Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return, and carry a light and a way to call for help.
On the water, wear a properly fitted life jacket at all times, check the weather before launching, and watch for cold water, which can incapacitate a swimmer within minutes. Fish finders and electronics are aids to navigation, not a replacement for charts, local knowledge and good judgment. Handle hooks and fillet knives with care, and keep fishing line and tackle away from pets and children.
Hunting and fishing regulations, seasons, license requirements and limits vary by state and change from year to year. Check your state's current regulations before every trip. Nothing on this site is legal, safety or medical advice.
